I was born into a life of adventure, love of travel and a life-long craving of new adventures. I started life on December 25, 1971 in Wurzburg, Germany. My parents lived in the next town over called Veitsocheim, while my dad was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam conflict. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and he serendipitously ended up in the Army band. Once born, I lived in Germany for just under a year before my parents returned to California where they resumed their teaching careers. My brother was born a year later and life was great, lots of travel and experiences. But, neither my mom or my dad could forget Germany and they longed to return. They both applied for and were accepted to teach at the Rhein Main Airforce base in Frankfurt, Germany. We moved back to Germany when I was 7 and lived there for another 2+ years. We lived in Walldorf, just outside of Frankfurt and had countless trips within Germany and to many other countries, England, France, Austria to name a few. Life of travel and adventure was great! It was the trips within Germany that inspired my current trip and my desire to share my homeland with my own family.

For most of my adult life I wanted to "get back to Germany" my birthplace. While I placed travel on the backburner during my 30's and 40's, as my children grew older, it became more important for me to share memories of my youth with them. In July 2024, I finally made this trip happen. I planned the entire trip, booked the flights, hotels, tours. I researched the country, travel options, can't miss cities, leaving time for last minute adventures. I relied on Rick Steves, YouTube videos for inspiration. There were some "misses" but far more "hits" and the trip was an extraordinary success. Here is my trip, I hope you can take some inspiration to plan your own Germany adventure!
